Natural Beauty, Real Confidence: Rosalyn Barrett on Wellness, Family, and Business

Earlier this month we got the chance to sit down with Rosalyn Barrett, the powerhouse behind hugely popular Beverly Hills plastic surgery office, Barrett Plastic Surgery. Not only did we learn so much about what it takes to build a successful practice in the insanely competitive world of Beverly Hills plastic surgeons, but she also let us in on some amazing wellness hacks, fashion insights, and of course, her motherhood journey. Dive into her inspiring story as she shares her insights on success, wellness, and the power of a strong community.

Q: Can you give us a bit of background about yourself?

Rosalyn: I’m originally from Northern California and come from a big Irish Catholic family—I have five sisters and two brothers. Growing up in such a close-knit family taught me the importance of community and supporting one another. After attending UCSB and graduating in 2011, I briefly pursued law school but quickly realized it wasn’t the right fit for me. That decision led me to Los Angeles, where I got my first job in the apparel industry. It was such a pivotal moment in my life because it opened the door to a career I had never considered. Over time, I developed a love for fashion and business, which set the foundation for everything I’ve built today. Later, I met my husband, Dr. Barrett, and together we’ve grown his medical practice into a thriving business. Every step of my journey has taught me valuable lessons about resilience, adaptability, and the power of hard work.

Q: Tell me about the Barrett empire - what was it like starting this business and how did you know it was the right time for you to join your husband?

Rosalyn: Initially, I was fully immersed in my career in apparel, which involved a lot of traveling for work. My husband encouraged me to join his practice, pointing out that we could build something meaningful together. At first, it was just the two of us, with me handling everything from answering phones and coordinating surgeries to marketing the practice. It was a true grassroots effort—we even spent weekends passing out flyers and attending health fairs. Over time, we started hiring staff and leaning on experts in areas like marketing and operations. That allowed us to scale the practice and focus on our shared vision of providing exceptional care. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see how far we’ve come, but it’s also a testament to the importance of teamwork and perseverance.

Q: Your practice has a strong ethos of natural and empowering results. How did you establish that?

Rosalyn: This ethos is a reflection of our values and who we are as people. We prioritize natural, subtle results that enhance our patients’ confidence rather than transforming them into someone unrecognizable. For example, we often work with moms who want to restore their bodies after having children or individuals seeking a small change that makes a big impact on their self-esteem. I love seeing the emotional transformation that accompanies the physical one. For us, it’s not just about aesthetics; it’s about helping people feel empowered in their own skin and confident in their daily lives. This approach has resonated deeply with our patients and shaped the identity of our practice.

Q: Wellness seems to play a significant role in your life. Can you tell us about your wellness philosophy and routines?

Rosalyn: Wellness has always been a cornerstone of my life, thanks to my mom, who taught us from a young age to take responsibility for our health. She emphasized the importance of avoiding processed foods, using natural remedies, and staying active. Today, my wellness routine reflects those principles. I focus on clean eating, sourcing organic produce and pasture-raised meats, and using non-toxic household products. At home, we’ve gone as far as installing EMF-blocking devices and optimizing our living space for health and comfort. While it can feel overwhelming at times, I remind myself that these choices are investments in my family’s long-term well-being. Wellness, for me, is about creating harmony between body, mind, and environment.

Q: Shifting gears a little bit - tell us how you would describe your personal style and what are some fashion staples you stick to?

Rosalyn: My personal style is rooted in timeless, versatile pieces that I can rely on year-round. I love a classic white collared shirt—whether fitted or oversized—paired with tailored black pants or a velvet skirt, depending on the season. Mixing textures, like cashmere or velvet, adds a chic element that keeps things interesting. I also enjoy adding pops of color around the holidays or incorporating statement pieces when the mood strikes. Over the years, I’ve learned to stick to silhouettes and fabrics that I love and invest in different versions of those staples. For me, personal style is about feeling confident, comfortable, and authentically myself.

Q: What's it like balancing four kids and the Barrett Plastic Surgery practice?

Rosalyn: Motherhood has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life. It’s taught me the importance of being present and intentional with my time. Juggling the roles of mother, entrepreneur, and partner is no small feat, but I’ve learned that asking for help and trusting others is essential for growth—both personally and professionally. Motherhood has also given me a deeper appreciation for the resilience and strength of women. It’s a constant reminder to prioritize what truly matters and to be gentle with myself as I navigate the challenges of each day. At the end of the day, seeing my kids thrive and knowing I’m setting a positive example for them makes everything worthwhile.

Q: How do you define success for yourself?

Rosalyn: For me, success is about balance and fulfillment. It’s the ability to juggle my roles as a mother, entrepreneur, and partner while still finding time for self-care and personal growth. On a daily level, success means getting my steps in, spending meaningful time with my kids, helping someone in need, and making a positive impact—whether that’s through my business or in my community. I’m a firm believer in acts of service; they bring me a sense of purpose and joy. Ultimately, success is about living a life aligned with my values and cherishing the moments that matter most.

Q: Can you share how you’ve built a community of strong women around you?

Rosalyn: I’m incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by so many inspiring women, from my colleagues to friends and beyond. Within our practice, I’ve built a team of talented, driven women who share our vision and values. Outside of work, I’ve connected with incredible moms, entrepreneurs, and creatives throughout Los Angeles. I love mentoring younger women on our team and celebrating the achievements of my peers. Building this community has been so fulfilling because it reinforces the idea that we’re stronger together. When women support and uplift one another, the possibilities are endless.

Q: Finally, what advice would you give to someone building a brand or business?

Rosalyn: Building a brand or business is a journey that requires resilience, adaptability, and a willingness to learn. My advice is to stay true to your values and vision, but also be open to feedback and growth. Don’t be afraid to delegate and trust others to help you succeed—this was a hard lesson for me, but it made all the difference. Surround yourself with experts and build a team that shares your passion and commitment. Lastly, remember that meaningful success takes time and effort, so celebrate the small wins along the way and stay focused on your long-term goals.
